| Air travel unlike early years has evolved. New airline spring up, old ones go bust, and business modules keep changing. Travel rules, taxes, mergers, and more can affect travelers directly or indirectly.

According to experts in the airline business things most likely to affect travelers are:
1. Extended strikes by pilots, ground staff, or other airline employees. Thousands of dollars and well laid travel plans are all lost due to flash strikes. People miss connecting planes, the sick don’t reach hospitals in time, business opportunities are lost, and people miss important occasions like weddings and family functions.
2. Mergers between airlines always result in uncertainties among employees and these trickles down to passenger service. There is tension and confusion and ground staff as well as in flight staff could pass on their tensions to passengers.
3. Sudden increases in air travel and taxes disrupt well laid travel plans of tour groups and traveler who have made bookings on budget well in advance.

Airlines need to ensure that changes in rules or schedules are conveyed to passengers through the media , websites, and travel agents. Passengers in turn need to create a check list for air travel and make it a habit to phone in before leaving home for the airport and log on to the airline/airport website the day before to ensure that there are no changes in rules, flight schedules, and so on.
Air travel is not simple anymore and both airlines and travelers need to be savvy for smooth functioning.
